Activities
Many activities are possible in Tofinho and the neighbor Tofo: diving and snorkeling, surfing, fishing, bird watching, walking along wild and unexplored beaches, riding horse, visiting Inhambane...
SURFING: Tofihno is a good surf spot, one of the best in Africa! Tofo beach also offers a nice place for beginners.
DIVING and SNORKELING: Tofinho and surrounds have some truly excellent diving, with nice reefs and excellent large marine life. The turquoise waters hold a vast number of game and tropical fish species as well as a variety of beautiful corals and rare marine creatures including whale sharks, manta ray, dugongs, turtles, dolphin...
Water temperatures range from 24°C (in mid-winter) to 31°C. Visibility is generally between 5 and 35 meters with 15 meters being the year-round average. Most of the better dive sites are at around 25-30 meters, requiring deep-dive certification (which you can get through one of the dive center if you don't have it already).
FISHING: The Mozambique coastline is renowned for its offshore game fishing and Tofo is at the heart of the action. The pristine, blue waters abound with king mackerel (baracouta), dorado, wahoo, various species of kingfish, bonito and yellow-fin tuna.
A permit (obtainable at the Maritimo office in Inhambane) is required for launching boats.
BIRD-WATCHING: Inhambane Province, with its great variety of habitats, is home to over 500 species of birds
